Ralph Lauren Nautical Stripe
The weather this weekend was amazing, so sunny and even a little warm. You can really tell that spring is coming! I also did some online shopping this weekend and noticed there are a lot of striped tops, shirts and sweaters. The combination of the white and blue stripes on an off-shoulder blouse has to be my current favorite for this year. But also shirts with those flare-sleeves are high on my wishlist. Ofcourse I had to order a few for when spring starts, so when they arrive I will definitely show you!
I've loved the nautical stripe since forever, so I decided to work out an outfit with a shirt I already own. I feel like the stripes make an outfit look so french-casual-sophisticated-chic. When you combine it with simple black pants and suede boots it looks more chic. But when you wear a shirt like this with blue jeans and sneakers it can really be a nice casual sporty look. Basically the nautical stripe is for everyone.
Ralph Lauren on the history of the nautical stripe:
"Declared part of the French Navy’s standard issue by the 1858 Act of France, the navy-and-white-striped shirt made it easier to spot sailors who fell overboard. In the century since, the so-named nautical stripe has exhibited some survival skills of its own. Its simple design has a beauty and a utility that make it the perfect contrast to more luxe statements—next to bolder hues and jewelry, the stripe is practically spare."
